On Extending Our Circle of Compassion

Something that has been pulling on my heart lately is a feeling of overwhelm. There are so many issues and causes these days that need our support. With so many to help, it can feel overwhelming to know where to start - to feel like my actions won’t make an impact. But they do, and every small actions turns into a ripple effect.

I know I don’t talk about politics or these hard topics here on my blog. This is a design company and I want it to be an inspiring, uplifting resource for fellow creatives. But at the same time, I want this company to reflect my personal values and morals. To give back to my community and make a difference besides designing pretty things and making money.

With that being said, starting this month Reux Design Co. will be giving back 5% of all profits we make to different charities each quarter. Talking is great, but the real change can happen when we put our money where our mouth is. This quarter (October — December) I’m partnering with Rancho Relaxo, a non-profit farm animal rescue in New Jersey.

Caitlin founded Rancho Relaxo many years ago after rescuing a wild mustang named Halona, that had been captured by the US government. A few months later, she adopted another horse and bought a farm for the two of them. Her farm turned into a safe haven for many animals. She fostered dogs and cats from high-kill shelters, rescued chickens and baby pigs that were being sold on craigslist, and much more. Before long, Rancho Relaxo was a full-fledged animal rescue. She now has a farm full of beautiful animals that have been saved from previous lives of abuse and torture: horses, pigs, goats, chickens, sheep, a donkey and recently a beautiful baby calf named Chester.

The thing I love so much about Caitlin is that she gives a voice for those who cannot. She never shies away from taking in an animal, even if Rancho Relaxo “can’t” afford it. She loves and protects these animals in a way that is truly selfless. And I’m so happy to be able to make a contribution through Reux Design Co. with the help of my amazing clients this quarter.

May we always find a way to strongly and confidently protect what we love.
